Following more than a century of rich tradition, the Tucson International Mariachi Conference returns for its 44th year on April 29-May 2, 2026, bringing five spectacular days of authentic mariachi and folklórico performances, workshops, and cultural celebrations. Established in 1982, the Tucson International Mariachi Conference is the longest, continuously running event of its kind in the US.

At the heart of the Tucson Mariachi Conference are its workshops, where selected student vocalists, instrumentalists, and folklórico dancers—spanning all skill levels—work side by side with world-renowned talent to prepare for the spectacular performances that close the conference. Students from around the world come together to bring stories of generations to life through the music, movement, and rich traditions of mariachi and folklórico.

“Students and instructors are not only taking rich knowledge of music and dance but they are also immersing in the culture”, said Chantal Ralls, Executive Board Member and founder of Compania de Danza Folklorica AZ

“As a former student, instructor, and now board member, I have seen the conference from all lenses, and it has positively impacted my life in every way possible. In fact, it is the reason I decided to go into education. Today, I serve as an assistant principal for TUSD. For me, every year it is about community and the lasting memories we create for our students and families”.

More than an event, the conference brings a profound sense of cultural prestige to Tucson and the broader Southwest region—reinforcing the city’s identity as a vibrant hub of living tradition and artistic excellence. Rooted in rich history, mariachi and folklórico traditions carry the voices of communities, families, and artists who have preserved and evolved these art forms over time. At the conference, attendees experience this legacy firsthand through powerful performances, artist storytelling, and immersive cultural exchange.
